I am cooking in my new kitchen!!!

Thanks to major effort and hard work by John, my dad and the cabinet installer, we have a kitchen.  It has all come together beautifully!  I love the cabinets and the appliances.  I haven't cooked a lot of meals yet, simply because we have been really busy with practices for the Living Christmas Tree performance this weekend.  But, I certainly plan to get busy cooking and baking next week.

We hired someone to do the mud and tape work and though he did a pretty good job, he didn't do a good job of the finish work.  We will need to do a little bit of touch up work to the walls in the kitchen and then we will be able to finish the painting.  I love the color.  I even picked out material to make curtains, but haven't finished them as of yet.  The cabinet installer was great.  He was meticulous about making sure everything was straight.  The crown molding at the top of the cabinets is beautiful and I am very pleased with the work he did.  He will be coming back after we get the floor finished so that he can finish the last of the cabinet trim.

The counter tops aren't in yet.  We ordered quartz and the company sent someone out to remeasure to make sure that they bring the right size for the job.  We currently have plywood countertops that are working great for the meantime.  The guys even ran a temporary sink for us since ours will come with the counter tops.  Our new appliances are almost all installed.  The dishwasher is in the garage for now.  They will be running the plumbing to it soon and by the time the countertops are installed, we will be able to wash dishes in the dishwasher.

This project was a lot of work, caused a lot of dust and took a long time, but in the end, we all know that something worth having is something worth waiting for!

We found that there wasn't any insulation in the walls, but plenty of dirt dauber nests.

We took out the wall behind the washer and dryer and the door you see in the middle is the closet door coming from the bathroom.  To the right of that door there is space for a new linen closet that will be added to the bathroom to make up for the one we took away.

John and his little helper.

There used to be a wall here, we opened it up and made a large entry way into the kitchen.

The door had to come down to make room for the sheet rock to go in.

That is my linen shelf that is in the bathroom now since we no longer have a closet in there.

The two windows came  out and a new window went in.

They framed around the new window and John worked hard every day to make sure he left things clean for us.

You can see the new wiring in the background.  They installed all new outlets and can lights around the entire room.  We will install a light over the island in the near future.

The walls have insulation now.

Sheet rock work complete.  You can also see my can lights.

This is the wall that opened up and you see the door to the laundry room.  On the right is the new pantry we added to the kitchen design.

We painted until late in the night to get ready for the cabinet installer.

The pantry.

The cabinets going in.

This is a view of the stove wall.

Do you see that white outline to the left of the window?  Well, that is my brand new wall that had to be cut out to add stability for the cabinet that was to go there.

I will share more photos when the kitchen is all done, hopefully, before the new year.

Until we meet again.
