A real laundry room

Many have asked for an update on the house renovations so here you go.

As you may remember the washer and dryer were in the kitchen when we moved in.  Well, they are no longer located in the kitchen.  As a matter of fact, nothing is in the kitchen, not even walls.  The kitchen is gutted and the laundry is basically complete.  By complete, I mean, the room has walls, a closet and we are doing laundry in there.  It is a fantastic space and I have even been able to set up my sewing machine in there and have been busy working on sewing projects.

Kitchen cabinets above the washer and dryer were removed.  We hope to reuse them in the laundry room or in the shed.
This is the last time you will be able to see through the laundry room into the living room, these two rooms will have a new purpose now.

My carpenters!
The windows were appropriate for a dining room but really too big for a laundry room.  The guys worked really hard to figure out the best way to make the new windows fit and frame it all in.  It sure was hot in their for a couple of days.
We now have insulation in the walls and we have purchased some for the attic.  One room at a time!
New windows all framed in and you can see the light switch in there too.
Sheet rock installation.
The new room closed in the hallway a little more, but I think we will end up with more storage in the end.
Let the walls go up.
This is the wall to the left when you enter the room.
This is the closet in the laundry room!!  It will be a pantry and serve to store lots of goodies!
This is the kitchen.  We found some interesting things in there.  I'll tell you about them in a future post.  The windows on the right will be coming out.  We are installing a single 36" x 36" window.  They are currently working on reinforcing the two openings into the kitchen, one from the living room and the other rom the hallway.

We haven't been able to find anyone to mud and tape the sheet rock yet, but when we do, we will have them do both rooms and I will happily share photos of the finished product.

The best part of all is that we have a room to do the laundry and we were able to make the kitchen bigger.  The cabinets have arrived and once the sheet rock, walls and ceiling, electrical, and windows are ready we will have them installed.

It is wonderful to see the old house taking on new form.  As I sew in my laundry room, I can't help but think about all the hours that my granny spend sewing in that room, when it was her dining room.  I hope she would be pleased with the transformation of this old house.

Until we meet again.
