Phase One Renovations

Okay, so I know we have already completed several rooms of our farmhouse renovation, however, we decided we needed to hire a contractor to assist in completing the final rooms in our home and we hope to complete an addition in the next year or two.

So far, we have renovated the kitchen, laundry room one bedroom and one of the bathrooms. Our current renovation includes two bedrooms and the hallway.  We decided along the way we would also add central air and heat as well as an attic access, flooring in the attic for additional storage as well as replacing the siding on the outside of the house to repair all of the damage we have created along the way. We also had all of the hardwood flooring refinished. Finish work in the laundry room, bathroom and previously completed bedroom was also completed.

All of the interior work for phase one is completed.  The work remaining is the completion of the siding on the back of the house.  I am excited to show it to you.  For today, a look at the hallway renovation.  This area of the home was all original to the 1954 construction.  This small house was really closed off with lots of doors.  That worked to our advantage and the only doors we have purchased have been for closets.

This is early in the process, (2012).  Zach helped remove the baseboards.  The door on the left was a closet.  We removed it and added that space in the kitchen.  The next space was wasted space so we added it to the bathroom.  It made the space about 3 ft larger.  We moved the door to Zach's room (door on the right) across from where the door on the left was.  And we added a 106 inch linen closet on the right.

This is the view from the other end of the hallway.

Door to Zach's room is on the right, new closet framed just past on the right.  Steph's door is straight ahead, bathroom door ahead to the left, our room on the far left.

New Linen closet.

AC return up front (top) and attic access to the rear.

Closet painted, ready for shelving.

In the midst of construction.  Hardwood is sanded, doorway for the laundry room is to the right, kitchen is to your left.
We did have an attic access previously, it was in the closet we removed.  It didn't have a ladder so moving the access to the hallway made sense.

Before the doors were painted.  These are all original doors to the house.  Notice that adorable box on the wall, we are so thankful for central AC/heat.

This is the new linen space.  This is where the door to Zach's bedroom was originally located.  Zach's room was originally the living room.

And for the finished hallway.

Zach's room is the first door on the right.

I love the linen closet.  The doors open all the way to either side and stack three deep.

Door 1 is the bathroom, Door two is our room, and straight ahead is Steph's room.

How about those floors?  They are the original. 1954 floors!

The next stop on our tour will be Steph's bedroom. See ya next time.
