Phase Two Renovations

When we finished "phase one" of our renovations we weren't expecting to begin on phase two until later in the fall or early next year.  Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for us, we have moved up the start date.  We plan to begin work later this week.  This phase will be minimal in comparison to the previous project as we plan to work on the redo the remaining bathroom and add a front door and small porch.

As weird as it may sound we don't really have a front door.  When we moved into the house we turned the original living room into Zachary's bedroom.  We left that entrance accessible during phase one, but never intended for it to be a main entrance to the house.  We currently enter through the garage, where we don't park our cars, but we do collect a lot of building project materials.  The new front entrance will change the appearance of our home on the outside and provide the ability for us and our guests to avoid the garage or as I like to think of it, hoarder heaven.  During phase one we purchased two matching doors for the front of the house.  We didn't want to take any chances on being able to match them whenever we were able to move forward with renovations.

The original entrance to our home.  We knew we needed to leave it during renovations so we decided to embrace it.  Eventually we will have a porch across the entire front of the house there will be two choices for entering our home.  One will just happen to take you to a bedroom.  It will be obvious which one is the first choice.

This is the inside view of the original door after we added the new closets and refinished the floors.

This is the best picture I could find of our new door as well as my favorite person working on another project for me.  The new front door will match this one and will be located right behind John's head where the middle set of windows are.
Some of the decor in Zach's new Bronco's room.  I still need to finish the curtains and then his room will be complete.

The bathroom is really the catalyst for beginning the work so soon. When the bathroom was new it only had a bath tub and didn't include a shower.  As my grand daddy aged it became necessary for him to have access to a shower, so my dad added some water resistant wall board and a shower head.  It is really an interesting contraption.  With all the use from our large family the materials are deteriorating quickly. The tub is in good shape, however, the wall at the back of the tub is where the front door will now be located.  We will end up with a shower only.  It will be a nice size though.  We will be reusing the towel bars and the mirror from the current bathroom, but there really isn't much else we can reuse, (besides the toilet).  We want to add some fun design elements to this bathroom so I thought I would share some of our thoughts before we get started.

We want to use Galvanized metal for the shower walls.  I know it sounds interesting.  We have done a lot of research and are excited to see how it looks in the end.

Ours won't look exactly like this but this is the idea.

Thinking real seriously about this shower head.

We found this today and plan to turn this into our vanity.
The bowl on the top will be a vessel sink.

This will be the faucet.

We will end up with a small linen closet in the bathroom and we plan to use this as a template for the door.

Don't you just love Pinterest?  All the creativity.  I am not a creative person so being able to benefit from the creative people who share their ideas is so much fun.  I will keep you posted on our progress and I will post before and after photos. We are excited to get started!
Until we meet again.

  1. I am a fan of the galvanized steel as decor. I hope the project goes smoothly.
